+ 3rd Week in Ordinary Time

Readings: Hebrews Isaiah 8:23, 9:3 I Cor 1:10-13, 17 Matt 4:12-23

It’s who you are and what you do that make a difference, not just what you say.

He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness among the people.” [Matt 4:23]

There is no doubt that Jesus attracted listeners because of the miracles he worked among them but it was more than the power of his words that moved them to conversion. It was ‘who’ he was that flowed from his words and deeds. I expect that is why his apostles dropped their nets to follow him.

As we get to know him in the Gospel of Matthew, I expect we too will drop our nets to follow him more closely. Perhaps in time, some of who he was and is will rub off on us. Won’t that make a difference in your world and mine?
